Major new report says world can tackle climate change without harming economic growth

A major new report released by the Global Commission on the Economy and Climate today finds that governments and businesses can improve economic growth and reduce their carbon emissions at the same time. The report - conducted by a global partnership of leading research institutes and advised by a panel of world-leading economists - was presented to World leaders at the UN's HQ in New York ahead of the UN Climate Summit. The GCEC report echoes the findings of several other reports recently published in the UK.

Global carbon emissions reach record levels in 2013

Global carbon dioxide emissions increased by 2.1% in 2013 to reach a new record high as the world set new oil production and consumption records according to data analysed by independent experts.

LowCVP collaborates with DfT to establish task force to determine future of energy for UK transport

Building on the LowCVP's recent studies on fuels decarbonisation a new Transport Energy Task Force has been established. The Task Force will help the Government to examine and formulate options for meeting the 2020 RED renewable transport fuel target and determine how low carbon fuels can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from UK transport in the period to 2030 and beyond. The Department for Transport has asked the LowCVP to help manage this work and coordinate support from stakeholders.

LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Awards Results Announced!

The LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Awards winners were announced last night at a packed gala dinner hosted by Cenex-LCV in Milton Keynes. The BMW Group won the ‘Grand Prix’ Award for Outstanding Achievement in Low Carbon Transport (winner of winners) in a celebration hosted by TV personality Robert Llewellyn. Professor Dame Julia King, author of the seminal ‘King Review of Low Carbon Cars’, was recognised with a special award for outstanding individual achievement.

New reports from ippr and Cambridge Econometrics show how tackling climate change is good for UK economy

A new report and illustrated guide from the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) demonstrates how tackling climate change can also help address some of the economic and social challenges facing the UK. A separate report by Cambridge Econometrics and University College's Paul Ekins says that meeting the CCC's emissions reduction targets will benefit the economy.

EPSRC announces investments to support low carbon vehicle technologies research

Two new research projects aiming to drive forward low carbon vehicles technologies are to receive £6 million funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), as part of the Research Councils UK (RCUK) Energy Programme. In a separte development, Bath University will receive £2m to establish a UK centre of excellence in low carbon vehicle research.

Carbon cuts from HGVs 'could be doubled' if all stakeholders join forces - industry

Following the publication of a new report, European truck manufacturers have laid out recommendations for cutting CO2 emissions. CEOs of leading manufacturers confirmed at a press summit that they are on track with their ‘Vision 20-20’ to reduce fuel consumption from new vehicles by 20% over the period 2005-2020, or at an annual rate of 1.3%.

Climate change on the agenda at party conferences

Speaking at the Party's annual conference, Labour leader Ed Miliband committed his party to tackle climate change and create a million high-tech 'green' jobs by 2030 if his party wins the General Election next May. Labour's promises follow earlier pledges for new laws 'for a greener Britain' by the Liberal Democrats.

Consortium to build EV rapid charge network in the UK

BMW and Volkswagen teamed up with Nissan-Renault to build a multi-standard Rapid Charge Network across a large area of the UK and Ireland. The initiative is part of European plans to support the growth of such networks across the EU.

New US website set up to provide unbiased information on truck fleet efficiency

Carbon War Room and the North American Council for Freight Efficiency have launched a joint program to drive the adoption of efficiency technologies. The launch was marked with the release of a free, independent, online technology guide to help fleet owners make the best choices for their operations.

LCV2014 shows low carbon vehicle industry continues to grow

There was a 24% increase in attendance at Cenex's Low Carbon Vehicle Event (LCV2014) compared with last year. Over 180 exhibitors took part, there were 103 vehicles on display (including 66 available for ride and drive) and 952 organisations were represented at the event. The LowCVP's Managing Director, Andy Eastlake said: "The LowCVP is proud to have been a supporting partner of LCV2014. The event demonstrated that the UK low carbon vehicle industry is in rude health; full of vibrancy and innovation and extending across more and more vehicle types."

Plug into the benefits of electric vehicles - Scotland events

The Energy Saving Trust is hosting a series of free, electric vehicle (EV) events across Scotland to highlight the benefits of integrating EVs into transport operations. They are inviting employers with fleet operations to join them for practical information about the business benefits of electric vehicles and support and financial incentives to help businesses lower fuel costs.
