  • Scotland announces new Centre for Low Carbon Innovation and Manufacture

    The Scottish Government has recently announced £60m funding for the development of the Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc on Michelin's Dundee site. The development is the result of the work of Scotland's new Industry Advisory Group (IAG) which aims to maximise the economic opportunities available to Scotland through the low carbon transition. The LowCVP has been a leading participant in the IAG.

  • Electric Vehicle Energy Taskforce report to be launched on Tuesday January 14

    The Electric Vehicle Energy Taskforce will launch the report “Energising Our Electric Vehicle Transition” on Tuesday January 14th in central London. The Taskforce is the widest collaboration between the energy supply, transport and mobility sectors along with government. It has been facilitated by the LowCVP, at the request of government, to maximise the benefits arising from the EV transition for motorists, the energy industry and wider society by capitalising on innovations including smart charging. Seminar agenda just published!

  • CCC Chairs write to Prime Minister outlining post-election priorities for tackling climate change

    19/12/2019

    The Committee on Climate Change has written to the Prime Minister outlining its assessment of the priorities for the new Government to reduce UK emissions and prepare for climate change. On transport, the Committee calls for rapid progress to be made in the implementation of the manifesto commitment to consult on an earlier phase-out of petrol and diesel cars, ideally by 2030.

  • Madrid climate conference ends with limited progress; but agreement that more urgency is needed

    Governments at the UN climate talks in Madrid responded to the growing urgency of the crisis with a partial admission that carbon-cutting targets are too weak, but few concrete plans to strengthen them in line with the 2015 Paris agreement. More than 190 nations and blocs, from the US, China and the EU to the smallest island states, were represented.

  • Government consultation on introduction of 'green' number plates closes on 14 Jan

    The Government consultation about introducing green number plates "to celebrate and encourage uptake of electric vehicles" will close on 14 January 2020. The Government says that 'green' licence plates mean that the cleanest cars will be easily identifiable, helping their drivers to benefit from local incentives such as free or cheaper parking or even preferential access to some road areas.

  • LowCVP to host series of zero emission vehicle workshops beginning with events in Perth, Reading

    LowCVP will be hosting a series of Zero Emission Fleets workshops in the coming months, focusing on different vehicle sectors. An event in Perth on December 4 will cover commercial fleets while a second, in Reading on December 5, will focus on buses.

  • Route to Tomorrow's Journeys - Micromobility Regulations

    A discussion paper on the emerging micromobility sector.

    The LowCVP is working in association with the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA), to develop the PLV market and to begin the discussion around the prospects for micromobility vehicles in the UK. Care will be needed to appropriately regulate this emerging mode of transport, to ensure the safety of riders, pedestrians and other road users.

  • 11,000 international scientists call for urgent and immediate action to tackle 'climate crisis'

    An international grouping of 11,000 scientists has warned that humanity faces "untold suffering due to the climate crisis" unless urgent and effective action is taken. Meanwhile, the WMO has reported that greenhouse gas emissions hit record levels in 2018, in the latest figures just released.
