OLEV and Innovate UK announce £24m low emission freight and logistics trial Competition

Fri 19 August 2016 | Back to news list

A new £24m funding competition has been launched by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) with support from Innovate UK to enable industry-led research trials and development of innovative vehicles or on-vehicle technology.  The competition's aim is to trial or develop low emission vehicles in the freight, logistics, utilities and emergency industries.

The competition opened on 11th July and consists of two streams:

Stream 1 which funds projects to trial vehicles and on-vehicle technology in the real world, supporting small trial fleets of low emission vehicles and their refueling/charging infrastructure. These projects are expected to range in value from £500,000 to £5 million and last between 18 months and 2 years, with vehicle trials of at least one year.

Stream 2 will fund projects to develop or trial innovative and disruptive on-vehicle technology, systems or business models that reduce emissions in the real world.  The projects in stream 2 are expected to last no more than a year and range in size of project costs from £250,000 to £5 million.

Both streams of the competition must be collaborative and a business must lead the project.

The deadline for registering for either stream is noon on 12 October 2016.

For further help in submitting applications, interested parties can view KTN’s guidebook for Innovate UK Competition Applicants or the Innovate UK briefing webcast.

The LowCVP recently launched a scheme to support the introduction of lower carbon, fuel saving commercial vehicle technology in commercial vehicles. Announced by transport minister Andrew Jones at the LowCVP Conference, the Low Carbon Accreditation Scheme for HGV Technology is designed to tackle one of the main barriers to the adoption of lower carbon, cleaner and more efficient commercial vehicles in the UK.
