Coventry, like many towns and cities in the UK, faces the challenge of poor air quality in some areas of the city – particularly in those areas with high levels of traffic. A city-wide network of 25 rapid electric charging points have been installed in the city centre and around 100 in neighbourhoods across the city – with more to come. The Action Plan contains package of measures including: • promoting the use of electric vehicles, including taxis, buses and private cars; • real time monitoring of air quality and traffic flows linked to improved technology supporting dynamic traffic management, making it easier to move traffic around the city and away from areas experiencing poor air quality; • initiatives to promote changes in travel behaviour and reduce car use within the city; • construction of new cycle routes The Council is working with all sectors of the community to encourage and support them in reducing the city's carbon footprint. Our Low Carbon Revenue Grants provide financial support to commercialise low carbon products that are either new to the company or new to the market. A number of major projects are underway that are helping to reduce the city's carbon emissions, these include: Low carbon vehicles and infrastructure, Go Electric taxi scheme, Electric buses, Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer, Autonomous vehicles, Very Light Rail, Green Business Programme, Green Week, Energy Innovation Zone, Recyclable Road Resurface, Supporting the Green Economy, UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC).
