Cornwall Council (through Cormac Fleet Team) has made a commitment to achieve 10% of all fleet vehicles running on alternative fuels by 2022, and the Council is aiming to become carbon neutral by 2030. Through the Clean Air for Cornwall Strategy and developing Climate Change Strategy, we are working towards fleet improvement and wish to set an example to residents and businesses. We are already exploring alternative technologies, but as a large rural unitary authority this is challenging. We have already undertaken a trial of hydrogen electrolysers (unsuccessful at reducing emissions) and are now exploring other options including electric for cars and vans and biomethane for heavy vehicles. We are applying to become members of LowCVP to assist us in achieving our goals, help develop an understanding of the best options for low carbon and low emission technologies, share knowledge and hopefully contribute to the work of LowCVP.

LowCVP sits at the nexus of industry, policy and civil society, providing a valuable forum for objective research, debate and action amongst disparate stakeholders.
