Arriva is one of the largest providers of passenger transport in Europe, operating more than 20,000 vehicles and delivering more than 2.2 billion passenger journeys across 14 European countries each year. Here at Arriva we know that well-run public transport improves the ecological effect of our daily commute and leisure journeys. We intend to go further and be an eco-pioneer, the Arriva way, providing more than just an attractive and viable alternative to private vehicle use.
As an established part of Deutsche Bahn, our parent company, our strategy is made up of three key pillars that are fully aligned to the DB2020 strategy. One of these pillars is Ecology and our aim is to reduce our total carbon footprint by 30% by 2020 through preserving resources, lowering emissions and reducing noise pollution.
To help Arriva achieve its goal, our Technical Strategy and Innovation department within Group Engineering has developed our Group Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) strategy in collaboration with several internal departments and external organisations. This strategy will help our businesses make the right decisions when it comes to tendering, procuring and operating zero emissions vehicles in their respective operations and fleets, and will continue to be updated as technology evolves leading up to 2020. With our new ZEV strategy set to be rolled out across Arriva later this year, we remain committed to becoming an eco-pioneer and helping to shape local transport markets of the future by offering innovative and customised solutions.
