AB Airflow design aerodynamic improvements for trucks leading to lower fuel consumption. Aerodynamics are our specialisation. We’ve studied them for over 20 years, and that has given us a wealth of experience that no one else in our field can match. We supply to many blue chip companies such as TNT, Gist, M&S, NFT, Tesco, Sainsburys, Wiseman, Ocado, Asda, Boots, Morrisons, Lenham and Ceva. For us, aerodynamics are an understood science because our designs are wind tunnel tested and proven, we have a 4/10th highly detailed scale model. Small scale models such as 1/10th simply do not scale, results are unreliable and can be the opposite of the real world result. A model of minimum scale of 1/3rd in a large wind tunnel such as the MIRA Full Scale wind tunnel is required, this is the only full scale (for cars) wind tunnel in the UK and a 4/10th model is the largest that can be yawed in this tunnel. As far as we know we have the only model of this size in Europe. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has also been used for research on truck aerodynamics and although CFD has improved a great deal in the last couple of decades it still has a long way to go before it can compete with the efficiency and accuracy of wind tunnel testing. CFD is good for early work and it does work well for streamlined bodies but it does not work well in areas of turbulence such as the tractor trailer gap and chassis area. AB Airflow are helping reduce the carbon footprint of many organisations and have some exciting developments in the pipeline.
