Tfl have unveiled the first of 5 BYD pure electric double deck buses set to go on trial in London from April. The £350,000 bus will run on the 98 route between Wilsden and Russel square.
The 'K8SR' is the first purpose built OEM double deck bus set to go into service, with York's Sightseeing Bus the world's first pure electric double deck bus following a conversion from Magtec in 2014. Once the charging infrastructure has been installed, TfL is expected to introduce the remaining 4 BYD into London's Fleet.
TfL is continuing to test new low and zero emission technologies as part of their commitment to reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality in London. Go-Ahead Group are set to run the first all-electric bus route starting in August, with the total number of electric buses set to reach 74 in London by the end of 2016.
