13 low carbon truck trials announced with £11m support from Government


Tesco, the John Lewis Partnership, Robert Wiseman Dairies and the BOC Group are amongst the thirteen companies leading trials in a £23m demonstration programme that aims to encourage road haulage operators in the UK to buy and use low carbon commercial vehicles. The trials are backed by £11m in Government funding and will be managed by the Technology Strategy Board in partnership with the Department for Transport and the Office for Low Emission Vehicles.

Scottish Government  announces extra £3m for Green Bus Fund

The Scottish Government is making £3m available to bus operators to buy low carbon vehicles. Since Scotland's Green Bus Fund was launched two years ago, 74 buses have been purchased. The extra funding is expected to see around 40 more low carbon buses on the road.

LowCVP in collaborative project to study barriers to uptake of low carbon technology in HGV market

The LowCVP, Transport KTN and the Society for Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) are launching a study into the barriers to the uptake of low carbon technology in the Heavy Commercial Vehicle market. AEA Technology has been awarded the contract and will begin the study early in September.

DECC publishes three new reports into UK innovation

The Department for Energy and Climate Change has published three new reports into key areas of innovation. The Technology Innovation Needs Assessments (TINAs), covers marine energy, electricity networks and storage, and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS).

Businesses could save £1bn through mileage management systems - survey

New research by the Energy Saving Trust shows that UK companies could see their mileage claims drop by ten per cent through more accurate tracking of journeys. Also as a result, the study says, carbon emissions from business fleets could be cut by 2.4m tonnes.

ASA bans Vauxhall Ampera advert for making misleading claims

A TV advertisement for the Vauxhall Ampera has had to be withdrawn following complaints that it suggested that the vehicle is capable of travelling 360 miles using electricity alone. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) upheld the complaint saying that it was ambiguous and unclear to users who may be unfamiliar with the technology.

Treasury receipts from company cars down by over £500m due to lower sales and greener fleets

Figures released by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) show that the Treasury's receipts from company cars have fallen by over £500m since 2005 due to a combination of lower sales and the adoption of more low carbon vehciles which enjoy lower taxes.
