New, independent report on life-cycle impacts of road vehicles confirms environmental benefits of electric powertrains

Ricardo, E4tech and the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research Heidelberg (ifeu), have delivered an innovative and comprehensive lifecycle assessment of road vehicles on behalf of the European Commission. As we transition to the electrification of vehicles and other new fuels it is more important to use life-cycle assessment (LCA) approaches in assessing the relative impacts of different options on an holistic basis.

The Local Government Association has published a series of decarbonisation briefings designed to help local councils take action to decarbonise transport.

Volta Trucks launches 'world first' full-electric 16-tonne commercial vehicle Volta Trucks has launched a new purpose-built fully electric 16-tonne commercial vehicle. The company says that it is targeting the same total cost of ownership as a conventional diesel vehicle while offering added benefits. Trials are to begin in the first half of 2021 with the start of production scheduled for 2022. Read more

Zap-Map launches Zap-Pay to enable seamless payment experience for UK EV charging points Zap-Map the leading mapping service for EV charging in the UK has launched Zap-Pay which enables EV drivers to use a single app to pay for charging across different networks.  Read more

£27 million fund to support UK low carbon automotive innovation opens

The Advanced Propulsion Centre has launched a new call (APC17) for a share of £27m funding to support late stage R&D in advanced low carbon propulsion capability in the automotive sector.


How do consumers use electric vehicles? Data from ES-Cat CVEI trials now available The Energy Systems Catapult has announced that data from the 3-year Consumers, Vehicles and Energy Integration (CVEI) project is to be be made accessible. The project was the UK’s largest and most comprehensive set of trials on consumer behaviour and attitudes towards electric vehicles and smart charging.  Read more

A new trade body to represent sustainable, renewable transport fuels formed

A new trade body - the Renewable Transport Fuel Association (RTFA) - has been formed to help achieve rapid action to decarbonise transport through use of bioethanol, biodiesel, biomethane and biopropane. Gaynor Hartnell, former Chief Executive of the Renewable Energy Association will be the organisation's Chief Executive.
