Government brings forward target to end sales of combustion engine cars to 2035


The Government has announced that it plans to bring forward the ending of the sale of combustion engine cars and vans in the UK from 2040 to 2035. Making the announcement at the launch of the UN Climate Summit - which is scheduled to take place in Glasgow in November - the Government also confirmed that the proposals include ending the sale of all hybrid vehicles. It says that the deadline may be earlier if a faster transition is feasible, subject to consultation.

Government reshuffle brings new ministers into DfT, BEIS Rachel Maclean MP is the new minister for the 'future of transport', including LowCVP areas of transport decarbonisation and the environment following a wide-ranging reshuffle of the Government on 13-14 February. She takes over from George Freeman MP. Alok Sharma MP has been appointed as Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and is also named as President for CoP26, the major international climate change conference which will take place in Glasgow in November.  Read more

Ofgem publishes decarbonisation action plan

Ofgem has published a Decarbonisation Action Plan which sets out nine actions required to be taken over the next eighteen months to ensure energy networks are ready to deliver net zero, support Government in tackling the difficult question of how to decarbonise heat and transport and encourage innovation to provide new low carbon products and services for consumers. The plan has been generally welcomed by industry and consumer groups.

Electric Vehicle Energy Taskforce - report launch video published! A video recorded at the launch of the Electric Vehicle Energy Taskforce has been published. It provides a bite-sized summary of the government-backed project which brought together key players in the energy, infrastructure and transport sectors. The report demonstrated that an effectively managed integration of electric vehicles with the energy system can significantly improve electricity network efficiency, increase system resilience and limit the requirement to build costly new infrastructure to meet growing electricity demand.  Read more

ITT Hub - Innovation & Technology in Transport - 13/05/2020

ITT Hub 2020 will bring together all the latest thinking and technological developments which are already reshaping the transport and logistics landscape.  A conference space, indoor exhibition and outdoor experiential areas all in one place, for the very first time. The LowCVP is an event partner and supporter of the ITT Hub.


EV Infrastructure Summit - 25/03/2020

The second edition of the EV Infrastructure Summit (25-26 March) will focus on the opportunities and challenges involved in establishing a UK-wide charging infrastructure as part of the transition to zero emission vehicles. There are discounts on delegate fees for LowCVP members.
