OLEV announces £35m support to help electrify taxis, motorcycles


A new package of measures to speed the uptake of ultra-low emission cars and motorcyles has been announced by the government. The £35m package announced by Transport Minister John Hayes will see thousands more electric vehicle chargepoints installed on streets and at workplaces across the UK.

BEIS announces £4m plan to extend OLEV plug-in van grant to larger vehicles

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has announced that it will contribute an extra £4m to the plug-in van grant scheme to extend its eligibility to larger electric vehicles.


Green economy presents 'massive opportunity' for the UK says new energy & industrial strategy minister

Greg Clark the new Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has hailed the UK as world leader in low carbon technologies, suggesting that the green economy is likely to play a key role in future industrial strategy.


MPs group says government must make stronger commitment to sustainable transport to meet targets

In a new report, the Environmental Audit Committee says that the Government needs a clear strategy to increase the use of ultra-low emission vehicles and reduce air pollution so that it can meet decarbonisation and air quality targets.

Nissan confirms continuing production in Sunderland in boost for UK automotive sector

In a boost to the UK motor industry and to the low carbon sector, Nissan Motor Company has announced that it will produce two new models at its Sunderland plant. The news has been welcomed following uncertainty generated as a result of the referendum vote for 'Brexit'.

Paris Agreement to come into force as Earth's atmosphere passes 400ppm CO2 threshold

The Paris Agreement, negotiated by more than 200 countries to cap emissions and curb the global rise in temperatures, will come into force on November 4 following an announcement from the United Nations that the treaty has reached the threshold necessary to formally take effect.

New EV Network Group to facilitate collaboration between EV users, power suppliers

The LowCVP and EA Technology have announced the launch of a New EV Network (EVN) Group which will bring together key stakeholders from the low carbon automotive and electricity supply sectors with the aim of ensuring that rapid electric vehicle uptake is not constrained by its impacts on the UK’s power grid. 


International Developments

Biofrontiers project urges EC to set targets for sustainable biofuels

A new report, based on over a year of exchanges between leading European stakeholders has presented a vision of a path forward for European fuels policy. The LowCVP was amongst the partners in the Biofrontiers project which brought together stakeholders from industry and civil society to explore the conditions and boundaries under which such fuels might be developed in a sustainable manner.

Government announces array of consultations to help map out future for ULEVs, infrastructure, alternative fuels and clean air

The new Government has announced a range of new consultations, seeking input from stakeholders about several aspects of the introduction of ULEVs and refuelling infrastructure relating to climate change and local pollution.


EA Technology seeks consultation responses to Smart EV project to facilitate plug-in vehicle uptake

EA Technology is seeking responses from stakeholders to a consultation aimed at better understanding how market mechanisms could work to facilitate the uptake of a technical solution (such as demand side response) to enable controlled plug-in vehicle uptake on electricity networks.

Cenex LCV2016 sees 10% rise in visitor numbers, more exhibitors

With over 3,100 attendees, Cenex-LCV2016 achieved a 10% total increase in visitor and exhibitor attendance compared with LCV2015. Hosted at Millbrook, the event featured over 226 exhibitors (up 7%) and 122 vehicles on display (up 16 %).  More than 90 presentations were made and in addition, more than 330 people attended the Cenex-LowCVP LCV2016 networking dinner, at the MK Dons Stadium.


Job vacancy: Low Carbon Vehicles Consultant - E4tech, London

Low carbon and low emission vehicles are one of the fastest growing areas of E4tech’s business. We want to reinforce our London team with an additional employee. To complement E4tech’s existing knowledge we are keen to strengthen our electrical energy skills in particular, at a component, vehicle and energy system level. We would also like to extend our networks in continental Europe.

The LowCVP UK e-Bus Summit - 10/11/2016

The LowCVP UK e-Bus Summit will bring together best practice examples of electric bus and infrastructure deployment in the UK alongside an introduction to the Horizon 2020 "Electrification of Public Transport In Cities" (eLIPTIC) project. eLIPTIC aims to trail and demonstrate the business case for using existing infrastructure to support the charging of buses and other modes of transport across 12 European cities.  


Environmental Protection UK Annual Conference - 10/11/2016

This year marks 60 years since the Clean Air Acts, legislation that tackled the devastating impacts of the great smogs of the 1950’s. EPUK campaigned for this legislation (as the National Society for Clean Air), as we continue to push now for robust environmental legislation and programmes to protect human health, in the light of uncertainty around Brexit. EPUK is marking this significant milestone with a look back and a look ahead, to consider the opportunities and challenges for environmental protection from the current situation and the future to provide health protection for all in the UK.

Join the Advanced Propulsion Centre for a lively debate at the Royal Institution on 14 November, where a panel of industry experts will offer differing visions of the future – and argue that their technology has the power to let the internal combustion engine (I.C.E.) rest in peace.


International EV Batteries 2016: Cost-Effective Engineering for Hybrid and Electric vehicles - 06/12/2016

International EV Batteries 2016 will address the critical challenges being faced by electric vehicle OEMs globally. Attendees will take away the latest innovations from Asia, Europe and North America in battery management, modular design, range extension, battery testing and pack integration.


Eureka Project Ecovehicle Workshop - 08/12/2016

The environmental impact of transport within Europe is increasing due to increased mobility of people and goods. Products for example can be designed in one country, manufactured in another and sold in all European countries while people can live and work in any Member State of the EU. To reduce this environmental impact, the Ecovehicle project is developing the concept of road and rail vehicles with a low environmental footprint and aiming to define a classification for vehicles in order to promote those that are environmentally friendly. 


Driverless Technology Conference - 22/11/2016

Current technological capabilities for self-driving cars, highly automated and autonomous vehicles are expanding rapidly. The Driverless Technology Conference (DTC’16) focuses on accelerating growth within driverless technology and maintaining the UK’s position at the forefront of industry development.
 


Low Carbon Britain - 01/12/2016

Low Carbon Britain 2016 Developing a Smart, Resilient, Digital Society is a unique conference that will address Great Britain's current carbon reduction position and allow us to hear from those leading and driving the policies and proposals. One of the main focuses of the conference is to discuss how public sector and organisations along with towns, villages and cities can reduce their carbon emissions. In addition highlight the benefits of a low carbon society with more efficient workplaces , warmer healthier homes and benefit from improved air quality.
