Government announces £500m support package for ULEVs including Plug-in Car Grant extension


The Deputy Prime Minister has announced the main elements of a £500 million package of measures to support the development and use of a wide range of ultra low emission vehicles (ULEVs) to 2020. Included in the package is at least £200m to extend the duration of the Plug-in Car Grant plus a range of measures designed to improve access to low carbon fuels (including a rapid charge network), create more low carbon cities, save consumers money and encourage growth and jobs.

IPCC analysis says catastrophic climate change can be averted with little impact on economic growth

A landmark analysis by the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes that a global introduction of clean energy technology to limit the risks of climate change can be achieved at a cost of only a tiny fraction off economic growth.

Government publishes response following advanced fuels call for evidence

The Government has published its comments on the advanced fuels call for evidence, which ran from December 2013 to February 2014, and on the post-implementation review of the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO). The Government says that it believes that low carbon fuels are critical to the future of the transport sector and that some form of government support will be necessary to bring them to market.


Danny Alexander: “We can – and must – have both green and growth"

Speaking at an event in Westminster, ‘Green and growth; we can have both - lessons from the road transport sector’ hosted by sustainability hub in association with the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) the Rt Hon Danny Alexander MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury said today: “Green and growth objectives can and must be pursued together – as demonstrated by the five projects that the Technology Strategy Board has just identified to receive £11m funding to advance the use of green technologies in the production of cars and commercial vehicles.

Partnership announces work plans to keep UK at forefront of low carbon transport

The LowCVP's 2014-15 work plan, published today, aims to keep the UK at the forefront of low carbon transport and to complement the Government's £500m programme of investment which has just been announced. 


LowCVP Conference 2014 date announced; Baroness Kramer to provide keynote address

The LowCVP Conference 2014 will take place on Tuesday 15 July in Central London. This year's Conference looks at The Low Carbon Contribution: Driving Growth; Delivering Jobs. The Conference will announce new research, recently commissioned by the LowCVP, which looks at how progress in delivering low carbon road transport has coexisted with focus on economic performance and outlook in the UK's auto sector. The event will also include sessions looking at how the national low carbon policy agenda can be delivered at local levels and on the politics and prospects for lower carbon fuels.


LowCVP 'call for evidence' to automotive investment study ends on 2 May

The LowCVP's has issued a call for evidence to inform a study on investment in the UK automotive sector and analyse the impacts of policy aimed at delivering low carbon objectives. The outcome of the study will be presented at the LowCVP's Annual Conference on July 15. The call for evidence will close on Friday 2 May.


LowCVP and Cenex team up to host Awards Dinner during LCV2014, Sept 10

Cenex, the UK’s first Centre of Excellence for low carbon and fuel cell technologies and the organiser of the UK’s largest technology showcasing and networking event for the UK low carbon vehicle community has announced a collaboration with the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership for this year’s Low Carbon Vehicle Event, LCV2014. The LowCVP will be opening the call for nominations for the Champions Awards shortly. Sponsors are now sought for each of the Champions Awards categories.

Industry seeks delay in proposed EU deadline for new emissions test

According to a report in the Financial Times, European carmakers are advising EU officials that the proposed timescale for introducing new emission testing regulations is too optimistic.


First investments by Advanced Propulsion Centre announced

Four recipients in the first round of investment from the Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) have been announced by Business Secretary Vince Cable. Joint government and auto industry funding worth a total of £133 million will be invested in low carbon and improved fuel efficiency powertrain projects. 


£31m hydrogen refuelling infrastructure scheme launched in London

The Mayor of London has announced a new programme, which will see car makers and other entities invest £31 million in a demonstration project for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles using standardised refuelling infrastructure. 


International Developments

EC welcomes new data showing car industry has met 2015 'Cars and CO2' target two years early

The European Commission welcomed figures published today by the European Environment Agency showing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from new cars sold in 2013 fell 4% to an average of 127 grams per kilometre (g/km). This means the legal target of 130g/km set for 2015 has been met two years early.

My Electric Avenue announces first 'street of the future' in Marlow, others to follow

Nine neighbours in a street in Marlow are receiving delivery of electric Nissan Leafs under the innovative 'My Electric Avenue' project. The first 'street of the future' will enable the recipients to use their vehicles over 18 months in order to test a new technology that will monitor and control the electricity demand from charging electric cars.

Natural Gas Vehicle Conference 2014

The NGV Network is hosting its first ever Natural Gas Vehicle Conference 2014 at Gaydon's Heritage Motor Centre on 25 June. The event will showcase progress the UK has made in bringing natural gas trucks and buses to the market. It's an ideal opportunity to invite key people to the event who have an interest in taking further steps to develop the NGV industry.


Fuelling the next Generation – Gasrec Open Day

Gasrec is hosting an open day at their Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal (DIRFT) Bio-LNG refuelling station on Thursday, 5th June 2014. The event will be organised as a ‘drop in’ event between 11am – 2pm, for which delegates can register in advance (see link above).


'Liquid Air on the Highway' - Report Launch Conference

The focus of the conference will be to discuss the findings of the Liquid Air on the Highway report, to be published on 4 June by the University of Birmingham, Centre for Low Carbon Futures and the Liquid Air Energy Network.


Expanding charging infrastructure and procuring electric vehicles - free EU event

Bringing together procurement professionals from across Europe, this workshop, which has been organised as part of the EC-funded Clean Fleets Project, will facilitate the exchange of knowledge, expertise and best practice about clean fleet procurement under the EC Clean Vehicles Directive (CVD).
