Plug-In / Range Extended Hybrid

Plug In Hybrid

Plug-in hybrids are similar to a tradition hybrid bus, but are equipped with a larger battery which can solely powers the bus for a certain distance, giving a ‘zero emission capability’. The battery can be ‘pluged-in’ and recharged using mains electricity.

GHG emissions associated with electricity production need to be taken into consideration when calculating WTW GHG emissions of electric buses.

Manufacturers offering plug-in hybrids:

The Volvo 7900 Electric Hybrid is nothing less than a paradigm shift in public transport. It offers completely new possibilities and unprecedented advantages for any city.”

ADL’s Virtual Electric vehicles use an imaginative development of existing and proven hybrid technology designed to create Zero Emission buses that operate to the same demanding schedule as conventional diesels.”
