Government announces £20m funding to support low carbon vehicle development More news
22 September 2007The Government has announced that it will give extra funding to support research for new low carbon vehicles in the UK. The investment is intended to assist innovative companies taking forward low carbon vehicle research, development and demonstration projects and is being made available by the Technology Strategy Board and the Department for Transport.
It is hoped the new £20 million cash injection will help develop vehicles that could be on the road in the next five to seven years. The money is part of the Government's Low Carbon Transport Innovation Strategy (LCTIS)
Commenting on the new funding, the transport minister Jim Fitzpatrick, said: "Getting new low carbon vehicle technology from lab to road is vital if we are to reduce the environmental impact of everyday travel."
