DfT launches car emissions website More news

5 August 2007

Jim Fitzpatrick, the new transport minister, has launched a DfT website which gives advice to car buyers on the CO2 emissions of different vehicle models.

The rankings system is all accessible on-line (see associated link) dividing cars into 14 categories (from 'Supermini' to 'Performance') and allowing website visitors to select between manual and automatic transmission as well as between six different types of fuel.

The system has been compiled in association with What Car? magazine and the emissions data has been supplied by the Vehicle Certification Agency. The initiative is part of the Government's over-arching 'Act on CO2' campaign.

The DfT has introduced advertising to promote the 'Act on CO2' message and offers web-based advice on 'Smarter Driving' (eco-driving) as well as the CO2 rankings system targeted at new car buyers.
