GE and Nissan team up to promote EV 'smart charging' More news
28 April 2010GE and Nissan have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding to jointly research and develop the technology needed for 'smart charging' stations. The companies will be collaborating in research to examine what's needed in the home, in the car, and on the grid to bring EVs to market.
The first phase of the work will focus on integrating electric car charging with homes and buildings. The second phase will work on integrating electric vehicles with the power grid, according to the two companies.
"In the past few years, we have seen an acceleration of innovations in plug-in hybrid and electric cars that have sparked a revolution in smart-charging technologies", said Mark Little, senior vice president and director of GE Global Research.
The majority of the work will be undertaken at GEs research centre in Niskayuna, New York with participation from Nissan's North American technical centre in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
