Leyland Trucks is a successful UK based company located in Leyland, Lancashire and is part of the global PACCAR Inc Group. PACCAR is a global leader in design, manufacture and customer support of high-quality light, medium and heavy-duty trucks under the DAF, Kenworth and Peterbilt nameplates. Leyland Trucks manufactures a full weight range of trucks from 7.5 Tonne [GVW] upwards. These are mainly produced under the DAF brand, which are currently market leaders in the UK with in excess of 30% in the over 6 Tonne truck category. In 2011 Leyland Trucks manufactured approximately 15,000 trucks of 6 Tonnes [GVW] and above, It also produced CKD kits for the North American market which are sold under the Kenworth and Peterbilt brands. Since Leyland Trucks was acquired by PACCAR in 1998, it has become the group's established centre for light and medium truck design, development and manufacture. In addition to truck manufacture on the Leyland site, there is an aftermarket warehouse to service the UK and Eire markets, plus a Product Engineering Group. This group employs approximately 100 people and is responsible for designing and developing the successful DAF LF and CF65 truck ranges. The DAF LF won the European Truck of the Year in 2002. Other recent product successes include the development of the DAF LF Hybrid model, where Leyland Trucks was the first European OEM to enter full production with such a product. Leyland Trucks has also been successful in obtaining a number of grants from the Technology Strategy Board for Low Carbon vehicle research.
