Grant ThorntonNeil's role in the Grant Thornton Automotive team focuses on managing, delivering and developing a full range of Advisory services to the automotive supply chain including Low Carbon. Neil is a graduate in Applied Chemistry and has spent the last 4 years studying effective leadership in CranfieldSchool of Management and recently Cardiff School of Management.

He was sponsored throughout his time in University by the then British Steel PLC and joined them following graduation. Neil left British Steel to pursue a career with an SME automotive component manufacturer and worked for a number of businesses in this sector for the last 12 years, and for last 8years has been MD of an Aluminium die casting and CNC machining company.

As anactive member of the Welsh Automotive forum and management council member of the Engineer Employers Federation, Neil has an informed understanding of the issues influencing the sector as a whole.

Paul Clarke
Green-Car-Guide.comPaul Clarke founded Green-Car-Guide.com, the UK’s original green car news website, in 2006. Today Paul edits the site and reviews the latest green cars, with the aim of finding the best class-leading low emission cars that are also great to drive, and communicating this to car buyers. Paul splits his time betweenGreen-Car-Guide.com and his marketing and communication consultancy Promote, a company that he has run for over 20 years. Historically Paul worked primarily on environmental and sustainability projects, however more recently he has specialised in communication consultancy in the automotive industry, under a recently formed and quickly growing division of the company called 'Automotive Comms'.

Rachael Dillon
FTARachael joined the Freight Transport Association (FTA) in 2007 as part of the policy and information team responsible for writing and editing policy publications and compliance guides. This included FTA’s guide to green logistics known as Carbonfta. In 2009 Rachael was appointed Climate Change Policy Manager and manages the Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme, a voluntary initiative to record, report and reduce carbon emissions from freight transport in order to demonstrate industry’s commitment to sustainable logistics. The Scheme was launched in December 2009 and to date has grown to over 70 companies operating over 59,000 commercial vehicles. In 2012, Rachael was a finalist for Everywoman's Transport and Logistics Green Champion Award for her work on the LCRS. She is also Climate Change Policy Advisor to the Global Shippers' Forum.

Robert Evans
CenexRobert has been CEO of Cenex since 2005. Established as the UK’s first Centre of Excellence for Low Carbon and Fuel Cell Technologies, Cenex has a track record of project delivery for public and private sector clients, focused on supply chain and market development for low carbon vehicles and refuelling\recharging infrastructure. Prior to joining Cenex, Robert worked with Johnson Matthey developing international markets for environmental technologies, including fuel cells and vehicle emissions control. Robert holds a Masters in Management Science from Imperial College London and a Masters in Corporate Affairs and Communication (Motor Industry) from Leeds University.

Paul Everitt
SMMT Paul Everitt has been Chief Executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders since January 2008. Since then he has been instrumental in developing a more collaborative relationship between industry and government, sitting on the newly formed Automotive Council. Paul also sits on the board of Motor Codes, Industry Forum, Digital Radio UK, Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership and is Chairman of the Department for Transport’s Motorists’ Forum.

Ian Featherstone
Energy Saving TrustIan Featherstone has worked at the Energy Saving Trust since 2009 as a transport knowledge manager, helping the transport team stay abreast of low carbon developments in car and van operations and ensuring that the Trust’s transport publications are accurate from a technical perspective. He writes / manages monthly newsletters and webinars and has written articles for a range of publications including Fleet News, Public Sector Review and Environment Industry Magazine. Ian is technical lead for the Plugged- in- Fleets Initiative, a programme funded by DfT and TfL, working with 20 organisations to support them in the uptake of plug-in vehicles. A member of the Institute of the Motor Industry, before joining the Energy Saving Trust Ian worked in the vehicle leasing and fleet management industry.

Malcolm Fergusson
T&E (Consultant)Malcolm Fergusson has twenty-five years’ experience of environmental issues, technologies and policy, working primarily for governmental bodies and third sector organisations. For most of this time he has worked on climate change, energy and transport issues at national and European levels, with a particular focus on low-carbon transport. From 2008-2011 he was Head of Climate Change at the Environment Agency, leading its work on both climate change mitigation and adaptation. Prior to that he was a Senior Fellow at the Institute for European Environmental Policy, Europe’s leading independent centre for the development and analysis of environmental policy, where he led the team working on a wide range of transport, energy and climate change policy issues. He is now an independent consultant.

Rupert Furness
Department for TransportRupert Furness is the head of the Environment Strategy Division in the UK Department for Transport (DfT). He leads the team which is responsible for developing policies to reduce the environmental impacts of transport, and for the delivery of DfT’s climate change and air quality commitments. His previous posts in DfT have included advising Ministers on a range of transport and environment issues, and managing the implementation of the UK’s Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation. Before joining the DfT in 2003, he worked for a number of other Government Departments including the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Cabinet Office.

Professor Neville Jackson
Ricardo UK LtdNeville Jackson is the Chief Technology & Innovation Officer for Ricardo plc, He is responsible for the future vision of automotive and energy technology at Ricardo and for research and development.A graduate of Imperial College, London, his career has included 30 years at Ricardo in research and technology demonstration programmes. He is also Chairman of the UK Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership, Deputy Chair of the UK Automotive Council Technology Group and Vice Chairman of the European Road Transport Research Advisory Council (ERTRAC). He is a visiting Professor at the University of Brighton and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.

Dr Stewart Kempsell
Shell
Dr Stewart Kempsell is General Manager in Shell’s Downstream CO2 group working closely with automotive OEMS and other partners outside Shell. He has worked to advance sustainable mobility for the last ten years including chairing the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA) fuels working group in the UNEP partnership of NGO’s, governments and industry which successfully phased Lead out of gasoline in Sub Saharan Africa; and contributing to the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) sustainable mobility report . He has been active in the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership since its formation. Stewart joined Shell Research in 1981 after studying for a D.Phil at the University of Oxford and subsequently worked in sales, marketing, internal audit and managed a joint venture company in Saudi Arabia.

Dr Ben Lane
Sustainable Transport SolutionsNow a director of the consultancy Sustainable Transport Solutions (STS), Ben is a leading expert in the assessment of the environmental impact of vehicles technologies and transport modes. His career has included academic research and independent consultancy working within the public and private sectors. In addition to technology and life cycle emissions assessments, Ben is particularly interested in the role of end-user attitudes and believes that only by understanding psychological factors that influence vehicle selection, can low carbon options be effectively promoted. He is also one of the founders of Next Green Car, a consumer website which aims to become the number one portal for green car information in the UK.

John Lewis
BVRLAJohn Lewis is chief executive of the British Vehicle Rental & Leasing Association, having joined the organisation in 2000.As part of his wider passion for promoting the sustainable use of road transport, John participates in a number of related organisations. He is a member of Government’s Motorists’ Forum and Road Haulage Forum advisory groups and contributes to its Red Tape Challenge as a fleet sector ‘champion’. John also sits on the board of the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership and chairs the Car Rental Working Group for Leaseurope, the umbrella organisation for European vehicle leasing and rental associations.With nearly 30 years’ experience in the automotive industry, John has held a number of senior positions in the contract hire and fleet management sector working with both cars and commercial vehicles.

Philippa Oldham
IMechEPhilippa joined the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in May 2011 as Head of Transport. Acting on behalf of the Institution’s 100,000 international members, to raise the profile of engineers who are developing safe, efficient transport systems with less congestion & emissions, whilst creating wealth & employment within our manufacturing sector. Policy statements & reports include Life Cycle Analysis & Intelligent Transport, Intelligent Society. A Chartered Engineer with experience of working within the defence, aerospace and automotive sectors, she has a full understanding of the importance of R&D & NPI.

Dr Douglas Parr
GreenpeaceDr Douglas Parr is Chief Scientist and Policy Director at Greenpeace UK. Currently working on climate change policy in the power, heat and transport sectors, he has previously worked on a number of issues including GM crops, chemicals policy, green refrigeration, marine conservation and bioenergy. He obtained a D.Phil in Atmospheric Chemistry from Oxford University in 1991.

Jason Reakes
BMWJason joined BMW in 1987, working in the company’s PR department in Regensburg, Germany, until 1999. He then returned to the UK to become Head of Communications at the BMW engine plant at Hams Hall, near Birmingham, before taking on his current role in 2009 as Head of Government Affairs for BMW Group UK.

Philip Sellwood
Energy Saving TrustPhilip Sellwood has been the Chief Executive of the Energy Saving Trust since 2003. He has an extensive commercial background in the retail, food and private equity markets. He spent twenty years with Marks and Spencer, joining as a graduate in 1977 and working in almost every part of the business. Amongst his achievements at M&S were the expansion of the £3 billion food business and the development of the innovative mail order and e-commerce activity. Most recently Philip was Commercial Managing Director for the Thresher Group. He is currently a Non-Executive Director at the Improvement and Development Agency. Philip is also on the Editorial Board of Sustain magazine and sits on the UKERC Board and the Advisory Board of the National Consumer Council.

Phil Spittle
Eddie Stobart LtdPhilip Spittle overseas Fleet Management and Operator Licensing for Stobart fleet of over 6000 vehicles and trailers and has been with the company since 2005. In addition to traditional fleet management services he focuses on emission reduction initiatives and sustainable distribution policy. His focus on Operating Licence compliance, which is highly regulated, is paramount in day to day operations and to safeguard the future of the business. Philip has spent 38 years in the and Logistics industry as both a provider and user of Transport & Distribution services. He is a member of the West Midlands Council of Freight Transport Association and a National Council representative of the regional council.

Rob Wakely
Department for TransportRob Wakely joined the Department for Transport as Head of Low Carbon Fuels Division in 2012, having previously worked in the Department for Work and Pensions on a wide range of social policy issues, including pensions, welfare reform and disability. Low Carbon Fuels Division is responsible for strategic policy development on sustainable low carbon transport fuels and operates the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation for road transport. Rob aims to build constructive engagement and bring fresh perspectives to bear on the challenge of finding sustainable ways to cut carbon emissions from transport while promoting economic growth.

Mike Weston
Transport for LondonMike Weston is Operations Director for London Buses. After graduating from Loughborough University in Transport Planning and Economics Mike joined London Transport in 1985, initially in network planning and then moving on to other areas such as management of bus contracts and bus infrastructure. Mike became Head of Operations in 2003 and in August 2004 was promoted to Operations Director which widened his responsibility. He now manages the delivery of bus operations which includes development of the bus fleet. He is also responsible for safety and the environment across Surface Transport, and the business units of Victoria Coach Station, London River Services and Dial-a-Ride.

David Wright
Coventry UniversityDavid Wright is Director of Strategic Developments at Coventry University and the Business Development lead for the University’s Low Carbon Vehicles Grand Challenge Initiative. David has spent the majority of his working life in and around the automotive industry – after graduating from Aston University he joined Land Rover in Solihull, working in Quality, Vehicle Development and Manufacturing Technology, during which time he gained a MSc in Manufacturing Systems Engineering. After periods in Tier 1 automotive suppliers and consultancy, David joined Morgan Motor Company as Head of Operations. After almost 7 years as the Chief Executive of the Manufacturing Advisory Service, David joined Coventry University in August 2009.
