The Community Challenge has three categories
Vehicles and fuels
This category is for projects promoting low carbon vehicles and fuels, for example through a website, a project testing a new technology or a roadshow/exhibition.
Case study
A project in rural Scotland is demonstrating the practical aspects of a community-shared, used and administered electric vehicle in Cairngorms National Park. The car will be available to residents in the locality through the Badenoch & Strathspey Community Transport Company. Click here to find out more about this project.
Smarter/Eco-driving
If your project promotes smarter/eco driving, for example through a website, leaflet or project engaging a specific set of drivers (e.g. young people, lorry drivers), then this is the category to enter.
Case study
Falkirk Council has produced a Guide to Eco-driving booklet, which is available for download from their website. Click here for more information.
Reducing car use
This category could include a project to set up a car-sharing scheme or car pool at a school or business park, a project to increase cycling or walking within a specific sector of the community, or a project reducing the need to travel e.g. video conferencing.
Case study
Moorcar started in Ashburton in 2002 with one lease car and six members and now has seven cars across five towns on the southern edge of Dartmoor with additional vehicles added in further towns as interest continues to grow. The car club is such a good idea that word has spread that people can give up the second family car, or even only use a Moorcar car when the bus is not running.
