Policy Developments

New transport and energy ministers confirmed following General Election

Jesse Norman is the new minister at the Department for Transport with responsibility for transport and environment, as well as road freight and buses. In support of the low carbon vehicle agenda Jesse will also take joint responsibility for OLEV together with Claire Perry who has replaced Nick Hurd at BEIS. Overall responsibility for DEFRA falls to Michael Gove, the new Secretary of State at Defra, though Thérèse Coffey will take direct responsibility for air quality issues.


Bill backing electric vehicles introduced in Queen’s Speech

Motorway services and petrol stations may be required to install electric charging points as part of Government plans to ensure the UK is at the forefront of electric vehicle developments. The Automated and Electric Vehicles Bill, announced in the Queen's Speech, will encourage the use of electric and self-driving cars. The proposals in the Bill are identical to those in a Bill presented in the last Parliament but which did not receive Parliamentary approval before the General Election.


Mayor of London's new strategy proposes more public and shared transport, active & healthier travel

The Mayor of London has announced a transport strategy consultation which proposes a major focus on walking and cycling and a pledge to make the entire transport system zero emission by 2050. The Mayor aims to increase the proportion of people walking, cycling and taking public transport to 80 per cent of journeys by 2041.


Committee on Climate Change says action needed urgently to 'close policy gap'

In a new report the Committee on Climate Change has called on the Government to urgently publish the delayed Clean Growth Plan which will set out how it proposes to meet its 2030 climate targets under the Climate Change Act. While UK emissions have fallen by 42 percent since 1990, successes have largely been confined to the power sector, while those from the country's building stock and transport are rising, the CCC said.

Jaguar Land Rover invests £20m in ride-sharing service Lyft

Jaguar Land Rover, Britain’s biggest carmaker, has invested £20m in the ride-sharing service Lyft in a move which will enable the manufacturer to test its mobility services initiatives, including driverless cars. It is also set to support Lyft’s expansion plans by supplying the US-based firm with a fleet of its vehicles.

Government must join up air quality and climate policies says 'think-tank'

A new report from the 'think-tank' Policy Exchange says that the Government must produce a strategy to ‘clean up’ road transport, and ensure that efforts to tackle air pollution and climate change are not developed in isolation.


Autonomous, electrified future must include shared ownership if CO2 benefits to be realised - report

A new report from UC Davis, California, says that the coming generation of electric, autonomous vehicles promise to make transportation safer, more convenient and greener but that these benefits won’t be fully realized unless users make the transition from private car ownership to a shared mobility model.


New study finds "tremendous value" in measures to increase efficiency of light duty vehicles

A new US-based study from the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) finds that improving fuel efficiency of light-duty vehicles according to the adopted 2025 standards and then by 4-6% up to 2030 offers "tremendous value for American consumers". The study evaluates the impacts of the standards on the costs of vehicle technology and fuel savings under low, reference, and high fuel prices.


"EVs to be the most disruptive car category since Model T Ford" - UBS

A practical analysis of the Chevrolet Bolt by UBS team found that the car's electric powertrain was $4,600 cheaper to produce than previously estimated, “with much cost reduction potential left.” UBS extrapolated its findings about the Bolt's production costs to make a bold prophecy: EVs will prove to be “the most disruptive car category since the Model T Ford.”

LowCVP News: LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Awards to be hosted by Energy 2017!

The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) and Media 10 have announced an exciting partnership to hold the 2017 LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Awards presentation gala dinner alongside Energy 2017 at the Concourse Suites 1 & 2, NEC, Birmingham on the evening of Wednesday October 11.


LowCVP to hold Low Emission Bus Workshop in Leeds on July 11

The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership, in association with West Yorkshire Combined Authority, will hold its second regional Low Emission Bus Workshop of 2017 in Leeds on Tuesday, July 11. The free Workshop will provide local authorities and bus operators with information on new technologies and fuels, sharing operational experience of low carbon and low emission solutions from bus fleets around the UK, including retrofit SCR projects.

Tickets are now on sale for the LowCVP Champions Awards Dinner on the evening of Wednesday October 11. The Gala Dinner will take place alongside Energy 2017 in the Concourse Suite at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham. There's an 'early bird' offer on both tables of 10 seats and individual seats available until Tuesday August 1.


LowCVP job vacancy - Programme Manager, Low Carbon Vehicles & Fuels

The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) is recruiting a programme manager. The role works closely with members to develop and deliver research, policy proposals and practical initiatives to accelerate the market for lower carbon vehicles and fuels and create opportunities for UK companies. The position is based in Westminster, but LowCVP encourage a flexible approach to home working and some travel across UK is expected in working directly with members.

LoCITY Annual Conference - 07/11/2017

The event will showcase the latest ultra low emission vehicles and technologies available for city fleets. The free-to-attend event will be held at London’s Alexandra Palace on Tuesday 7 November, with the latest clean, safe and quiet urban commercial vehicles and technologies on show in a full-day’s programme with top industry speakers.


PRASEG Annual Conference 2017 - 05/07/2017

This year’s PRASEG Annual Conference will focus on the UK’s need to drive future investment in new energy infrastructure and the opportunities for industry arising from a just transition to a low carbon energy system.
